[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]With your valid driver license at hand, you get the opportunity to drive in Uganda-the renowned pearl of Africa for at least 90 days provided your license is in English. For those of you with a license that is not in English then you will have an approved notarized translation of his driver license. Note that any driver especially foreigners have access to international driving permit prior setting off for a tour in Uganda. Like any destination, someone should ask himself or herself; what are the road rules in Uganda? Well, below are some of them;
Driving any kind of motor vehicle with no valid driver license is illegal. This means before you think of driving a car to any part of the country ensure that you have a valid driving license otherwise you don’t have the opportunity to explore this diverse tourist destination.
Like other countries in the world, driving in Uganda also has minimum age and you can drive a vehicle as long as you are 18 years and above. If you are planning to hire a car for your tour, then you should be 23 years and must have a valid driver license valid for about 2 years.
For any help especially in case of emergencies along the way, you can reach Uganda police phone through 999. For cases of a road accident, you are advised to contact the insurer and take photos of the scene of the accident and damage of the vehicle. As well, once the police arrive you are required to give your name to police officer and address, name and address of vehicle owner plus the registration number plate.
Driving while on phone is not allowed. Usually, most drivers take this precaution slightly making it the most violated and yet also has caused accidents on roads. Driving while on phone distracts someone’s mind and higher chances are that you can go off track. To avoid this, make sure that you focus on your drive.
The 3rd party insurance is mandatory. Driving in Uganda’s roads like any country is full of risks that need to be insured against.
Drivers and all passengers must be on seat belts at all times. In most cases, passengers and tend to ignore this rule but it doesn’t cost you much besides some little energy to put on your seat belt. Your seat belt is of great help the fact that it will safeguard you in case of accidents.
For motorcyclists, you must be on protective helmets. But this doesn’t mean that passengers shouldn’t be on the helmet. Both parties must be protected.
Do not drive when you are drunk or under influence of drugs. This is illegal and the accepted alcohol level is 0.08 percent. Driving under the influence of alcohol poses a high risk of road accidents.
The driving speed limit along the highway in Uganda is 100 km per hour and away from the urban centers, it is 80 kilometers per hour while around the urban centers you have to maintain a speed of 50 kilometers per hour.
The rear-facing baby seat should never be fitted into a seat protected by an active frontal airbag.
When you come to an intersection, you must pave the way to traffic from the right hand.
Conclusively, for a smooth safari holiday in any destination of this East African country inclusive, the set road rules in Uganda must be put into consideration some of which have been explained above.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_btn title=”Contact us and Rent a car” color=”warning” align=”center” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.yourdriveuganda.com%2Fcontact-us.html|||”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
